Iranian short ‘Mandatory’ wins 2 awards in Canada

Iranian short ‘Mandatory’ has garnered the Best Screenplay and the Best Film awards at the 2020 Vancouver Island Short Film Festival in Canada.

Written and directed by Mohammad-Javad Khoursha, the short title narrates the story of a soldier in firing squad who has been caught in a dilemma.

Between morality and work responsibility, he does not know which one to pick.

Soheil Karamyar, Soheil Qannadan, Armin Boshrouyeh and Fatemeh Radmanesh are among the cast members of the flick.

The Vancouver Island festival started its work in 2006 with screening short films made by British Council filmmakers. After a time, the fest added the international short films to its selections.

Now the event showcases many short films in different genres and styles.

It creates opportunities for the filmmakers to screen their works and form a network with other filmmakers.

The event was held on February 7-8, 2020.
